Singularity Collection
Every piece of jewelry that I make is handmade and one-of-a-kind, but sometimes I make only one version of a piece, a work that comes from a special place and inspiration, and that I cannot even try to make again. Each of these pieces involves many hours of love and work and is made almost entirely from reclaimed or recycled materials.
Lichen Necklace
Lichen Necklace
The myriad lichen and mosses that grow on boulders are so colorful, fascinating, and mysterious. I’ve recently read Braiding Sweetgrass, by Robin Wall Kimmerer. In this amazing book I learned that lichens are symbiotic composite organisms consisting of both algae and fungi, living in coexistence. This necklace is inspired by their amazing coexistence, which I would add also includes the rocks upon which lichen often grow.
Entirely handmade, the individual lichen/boulder pieces are made from pieces of folded reclaimed steel which I enamel, then link together into three beautiful strands. These strands hang on a handmade, three dimensional oxidized recycled sterling silver chain, which is adjustable from 19-23 inches.
This is a one-of-a-kind piece, handmade from 95% reclaimed materials, so the item you receive will be the exact one in the photograph. A percentage of every sale is donated to a non-profit environmental, humanitarian, or arts organization. Thank you for supporting sustainable craft!
