Commitment to Sustainability
Art is incredibly important to society, helping us to understand ourselves and our relationship to this small blue planet and all of the living beings with whom we coexist, but art should not contribute to the already dwindling supply of resources or create more waste.
Reclaimed and recycled materials have been integral to my work since I started making jewelry in 2004. They form the foundation upon which each piece is built, from enameling on reclaimed steel and copper to hand crafting components from recycled sterling silver and gold. Each piece of jewelry is handcrafted from a minimum of 50% reclaimed/recycled materials, but often up to 90-100%. I constantly strive to make my studio practice as sustainable as possible by also using the most environmentally friendly/non-toxic studio chemicals available. Reusing materials is not easy; it requires more effort, elbow grease, and studio time than buying new materials, and often non-toxic studio chemicals are not as strong as more toxic traditional chemicals. These sacrifices are more than worth the effort, as they lessen the impact that we have on our finite resources and fragile ecosystems.
Every piece of packaging for my jewelry is made from the highest percentage of recycled material that I can find, and all of it is paper-based, reusable, and recyclable. I even use recyclable, non-plastic packaging tape and shipping labels.
For every package shipped, a carbon offset is purchased to help negate the environmental cost of packaging and transporting your snazzy new sustainable jewelry to you.
Thank you for doing your part by supporting sustainably crafted jewelry and please continue the cycle by reusing, recycling, and by sending me your jewelry for repair if it happens to break.
